LUCIA HIERRO

 

Lucia Hierro, a Dominican-American artist based in New York, explores 21st-century capitalism through sculpture, digital media, and installation. Raised in Washington Heights, her work draws on Pop Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and European still life. In her digital collage, Hierro arranges cellophane-wrapped flowers, votive candles, an empty Hennessy bottle, a Hail Mary card, and a Saint Joseph figurine, reflecting on her own experiences and honoring lost souls.

JULES DE BALICOURT

 

Based in between Brooklyn and Malpais, Costa Rica, Jules de Balincourt's work depicts a vibrant nocturnal scene where fluorescent trees contrast with skyscrapers. Pink and red plants, deep shadows, and an inky violet sky suggest human presence through outdoor furniture and lit windows. He explores the balance between urban and rural life, and humanity’s connection to both nature and the metropolis. As he says, “I’ve always been interested in where the organic and the technological co-exist.”

Shaped by their experiences in New York City's 2000s queer nightlife, Farrell describes their work as "a journey through time and emotion," where the act of sitting together in the studio sparks magic, growth, and discovery.

A self-taught artist, Kelly Beeman first took to drawing as a hobby at a young age. Having been influenced by her creative parents, she grew fascinated with the technique of applying watercolor, which propelled her to continue pursuing drawing as an interest after graduation.

Kim Dacres
 is a Jamaican-American visual artist who uses found automobile and bicycle tires to create sculptures that replicate the people who populate her life. The Bronx native, now based in Harlem,  not only explores the visual representations of Black men and women, but also honors these individuals with the space and monumentality that they are entitled to.

Angela Heisch (b. 1989, Auckland, NZ) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. The composition is defined by a vigorous sense of movement conceived in deep browns contrasted by placid blue washes,— and sharp angles hatching depth throughout the waves that seem to radiate far beyond the canvas.

JUSTIN LIAM O'BRIEN

 

New York-based artist Justin Liam O’Brien’s work examines feelings of solitude, intimacy, anxiety and violence through an art historical lens with sweeping, figurative compositions. Inspired by the ACT UP generation of the late 1980s, specifically artists like David Wojnarowicz, Nan Goldin and Peter Hujar—the artist’s oeuvre examines queerness and belonging with a strong sense of place, just as these artists engaged with New York City in their practices.

Born and raised in New York City, Bianca Nemelc is a figurative painter whose practice explores the beautiful and symbiotic relationship between the female form and the natural world. Inspired by the artist’s own investigative journey into her identity, her work pays homage to her Caribbean, South American, and Indonesian heritage, through the use of varying hues of brown that come together to depict human figures.

Devin Osorio
(b. 1993, Washington Heights, NY) is a first-generation Dominican American. They find inspiration from the strong cultural and socioeconomic diversity in the predominantly Dominican neighborhood. Using shared and self-reflective symbolism, Osorio honors Dominican culture through shrine-like paintings that incorporate plants, animals and glyphs to create a visual vernacular of and for the Dominican American community.
