Expansive and dense, Victoria Roth’s paintings offer imagined environments that cast the body as a felt, inhabited, and shifting entity. Born in Paris and based in Brooklyn, the artist populates her imagery with muscular and bulbous shapes that exist as fleshy inflections within their own structural frameworks. With paint sanded to hollowed dryness or left as a meaty presence, she articulates subject-forms into beings that invoke, while also evading, the familiar. These anthropomorphic, animalesque, vegetal seeming or semi-architectural shapes suggest a future cycle of metamorphosis and continuous becoming.

Embrace depicts a velvety, densely purple subject looping in, out and around itself. A blue coil, springing in the top corner with subtle chromatic shifts, further animates the sense of continuous motion projected by the work. Previously, the artist has exhibited works internationally at galleries such as Brennan & Griffin and Helena Anrather Gallery as well as Paris’s Palais de Tokyo. Her work is also included in the collection of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, Monaco.

Of this limited edition, Roth notes, “ART FOR CHANGE’s model of mutual support could not come at a more urgent moment in time. The sale for which I have created this print is of particular importance to me, as it will in part support some of the most vibrant, iconic, historical, and experimental non-profit art institutions that have shaped New York’s cultural ecosystem for decades.”
