Connecting artists with organizations that share similar mindsets is at the heart of what we do at ART FOR CHANGE. We are thrilled to announce our most recent partnership with Independent Curators International and Los Angeles based artist Becky Kolsrud. Allegorical Nude (2019) is a limited edition 8 color silkscreen print.
Allegorical Nude (2019) comes from a series of oil paintings that feature imagined bathers. As is common to this body of work, a woman poses within a flattened landscape. She is covered in a field of color, representing both a body of water as well as a swath of blue fabric. Both clothed and nude, and in contrast to many historical bather subjects, she gazes out of the picture plane directly at her observer.
Based in New York City, Independent Curators International is at the forefront of shaping curatorial trends and discourse by working with curators, artists, and art spaces from around the world to produce and present exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives for professionals. These collaborative programs promote their core values of cultural exchange, broad access to contemporary art, and building public awareness for the role of the curator.
Becky Kolsrud (b. 1984, Los Angeles) received an MFA from University of California, Los Angeles in 2012 and a BA in studio art from New York University in 2006. Her work has been shown in numerous galleries worldwide including JTT, ACME, and Karma. Her work has also been shown in museums including the Hammer Museum in LA.
Making quite a splash in the contemporary art world, Becky was featured in the February issue of Vogue magazine. Becky, along with a few other notable emerging California artists, are reinventing what figurative painting can be.
This limited edition screen print will be available for purchase at the ICI Spring Benefit. Details can be found here: 3rd Annual Independents Spring Benefit
By fostering creative partnerships, ART FOR CHANGE is proud to raise money and awareness for both non-profit beneficiaries and artists. Proceeds from the edition benefit ICI, and half of each purchase goes to the artist.
