Nikki Maloof’s paintings depict a world hidden within her mind, where imagined interiors, animals, and still lifes become proxies for human experience. In Crab and Oranges, dismembered crab legs, twisted metal spoons and forks and an arched knife with blood orange reflections add weight to the flattened perspective. Pink washes and tones create harmony throughout the piece while her brushstrokes seen in highlights along the drawers and cutlery create further motion and texture throughout the composition. The artist will hand-embellish each edition with new elements rendered from collages of watercolor and colored pencil paper pieces, making each print a unique work.
