Laura Berger is a Chicago-based artist exploring interdependence and self-understanding through emotive, surrealist figurative compositions. Utilizing intuitive color palettes and minimalist environments, the artist explores the senses, memories and experiences that float between the spiritual, emotional and physical planes. Recent exhibitions include Tomorrow is Tomorrow is Tomorrow at Kristin Hjelledjerde (London UK); The Bioelectric Self at The Pit (Los Angeles, CA); Power of Femininity at Kutlesa (Goldau, CH); After Midnight at Rule Gallery (Denver, CO); Flight Path at Hashimoto Contemporary (New York, NY); and Soft Bound at Eve Leibe (London, UK) among many others. In 2021 the artist was awarded The Hopper Prize and her work has been featured in Hi-Fructose Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine and New American Paintings.

Meeting is a serene composition of three figures, ensconced in one anothers physical and emotional worlds—crossing auras and time under the light of the moon. Using transparent washes, each of the figures melt into and emerge from one another, connected through touch and abstracting disconnection between the self and others. A waking spirit rises from the bodies at rest, opening to a land of dreams. A viewer’s canvas— Meeting rejects definition and opens itself up like the arms of a long lost friend or a personal myth that grabs hold between sleeping and waking. Fifteen prints in the edition are hand-embellished by the artist, who has included additional light and transparencies throughout the compositions, making each a unique work.

“Reforestation is a critical effort and I’m so glad that my first ART FOR CHANGE print can help to support an initiative so close to my heart.” shared Berger on the collaboration. “The initial painting came in fall of 2022 and it’s been great to bring new life into the space for this edition."

In support of global reforestation, ten trees will be planted for each print sale of works in this series commissioned on the occasion of EXPO CHICAGO 2023. The artist will also receive 50% of net proceeds from each sale.
