Katia Lifshin paints surrealistic environments where bodily limits dissolve and the boundaries between inner and outer realities blur. Defined by a monochromatic, blue-green palette, the artist’s compositions often depict feminine figures who climb, run, or are suspended in moments of transformation. Motifs such as wood, vegetation, and bioluminescent light also recur throughout her work, alongside a marked interplay between brightness and darkness. Whereas light denotes clarity and resilience, its shadowy counterparts suggest introspection and uncertainty. This distinct visual vocabulary becomes a vehicle through which Lifshin explores self-reflection, solitude, mystery and the experience of being immersed in nature. Based in Tel Aviv, the Ukraine-born Israeli artist has presented solo exhibitions at Galerie Kandlhofer, Vienna, Austria; Long Story Short, New York, NY; Nassima Landau Art Foundation, Tel Aviv, Israel; and Moosey Gallery, London, United Kingdom.

Space Bloom portrays a world in which trees and humans merge. Elongated limbs—bearing feet as well as hands that clutch tiny white flowers—twist upwards into curved tree trunks from which large, alien-like blossoms hang and glow. These trees frame a checked path that leads to a dark abyss, conveying a strange world that seems simultaneously natural and psychedelic. In reflecting upon her own work, Lifshin notes, “I am drawn to the tension between darkness and light, fear, and wonder, as well as the way beauty and emotional friction coexist. Nature remains a constant, active presence that shapes the figures and emotional landscapes that drive my work.” For this limited edition series, the artist will hand embellish each print with new details rendered with colored pencils and pastels.

As part of ART FOR CHANGE’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and charitable giving, we will plant 10 trees for each artwork sold. Of this initiative, she adds, “I am a little obsessed with plants, which fill my studio and make everyone feel calmer. That tiny, everyday joy is just a peek at what trees do on a much larger scale; they support life, balance ecosystems, and keep our world going. Knowing that ART FOR CHANGE will plant ten trees for every artwork sold makes me feel like I am giving back through my practice.”
