Daniel Gordon is known for photography and sculpture that employs appropriation and reproduction in order to question the nature of the image-object relationship. Melding optical illusion, pastiche, mixed media, and a recalibration of analog processes, the artist consciously reframes what it means to have a photographic practice. Based in Brooklyn, New York, he has presented solo exhibitions at venues that include Kasmin, New York, NY; Huxley-Parlour Gallery, London, United Kingdom; James Fuentes Gallery, New York, NY; and M+B, Los Angeles, CA. Additionally, his works reside in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY; Foam, Amsterdam, Netherlands; and the VandenBroek Foundation, Lisse, Netherlands; among others.

White Poppies With Apples & Oranges situates the namesake objects within a colorful tableau, arranged through an elaborate process that Gordon has refined throughout the course of his practice. The artist begins by mining his collection of both found and original images, and adheres their digital prints onto volumetric structures that mimic the subject’s form and scale. These objects are then assembled into a still life configuration, photographed, and further manipulated in Photoshop; this last step is most apparent in the distorted and outlined shadows cast by the trio of vases that surround the fruit. Featuring vibrant layers created through both analog and digital means, the final work playfully collapses the distinction between various art mediums, while defying conventional norms of image making.
