Caris Reid is a painter whose works depict an ethereal, symbolic world of blooming flowers, rhythmic plants, and hypnotic stars. Influenced by her interest in mysticism, the California landscape, queer ecology, and meditation, her practice taps into both the familiar and the mysterious. Each subject represents the nexus between the physical world and the spiritual world, while every detail is coded and ripe with meaning. Based in Los Angeles, the artist has presented solo exhibitions at Over The Influence Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Denny Dimin Gallery, New York, NY, and Ochi Projects, Los Angeles, CA; among others. Additionally, her work has been included in group exhibitions at venues that include The Landing, Los Angeles, CA; Sargent’s Daughters, New York, NY; Longhouse Projects, New York, NY; SEASON, Seattle, WA; and The National Arts Club, New York, NY.

In Caris Reid’s original painting Vote, the titular word is inscribed before a glimmering background. A cosmic undertone pulses through the image, laden with an ambiguity that gives way to limitless interpretation. While wavy leaves creep in from the top and bottom of the composition, a large pink flower’s pointed edges emulate the stars that dot the dark night sky.
