Jean-Pierre Villafañe

Jean-Pierre Villafañe (b. 1992, Puerto Rico) received his MA in Architecture at Columbia University in New York in 2019. He received his BFA with advanced standing from SCAD, completing his last year in Hong Kong, focusing on the implications of urban conditions for social mobilization. His work has been exhibited at The Chicago Biennial, IL (2017) and Gensler, Washington, DC (2017); The Living Gallery, Manhattan, NY (2018); Batofar, Paris, FR (2018); The Shanghai Art Fair, Shanghai, CN (2020); EMBAJADA, San Juan, PR (2021); Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, San Jose, CR (2021); NADA Art Fair, Miami, FL (forthcoming) and Hoffmann Maler Wallenberg, Nice, FR (forthcoming), among others. His most recent awards include the Studio X Prize, Columbia University, and a shortlisting for GESTE, La Vérité Déguisée, Paris, FR. In 2016 and 2021, he volunteered to help define a visual identity for a refugee camp in Ritsona, Greece. Every year, he contributes work designated to collect funds for children's education in Kasai, Congo, Africa.
