Jamea Richmond-Edwards, Fly Girl with Four Orbs, 2019; Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Print
An ode to the aesthetic of her youth spent in the city of Detroit, Fly Girl with Four Orbs depicts a female figure surrounded by four vibrant, spiritually imbued spheres. From her Seven Mile Girl series, this work explores the artist’s connection to fashion as a vehicle for self-expression. Regardless of socioeconomic status fashion, and the desire for luxury brands, is an invisible thread that binds us. Fly Girl with Four Orbs explores our political climate through the celebration of fashion as a means for individual expression.
Jamea Richmond-Edwards' work was acquired by the Rubell Family Collection in 2018. She was the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Painters & Sculptors grant in 2018.
