Angel Otero

Angel Otero is an artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores themes of memory, identity, and personal history. Moving between abstraction and figuration, his work employs innovative material processes to examine the ways in which memories are fragmented, reconstructed, and transformed over time. Based in New York and Puerto Rico, Otero is best known for his Oil Skins series, in which layers of oil paint are applied to glass, peeled away, and reassembled into new compositions. His more recent works continue to expand the possibilities of painting, through dreamlike imagery and richly textured surfaces. Otero's work is held in major institutional collections, including those of Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
