Caleb Hahne Quintana, It Is Not Only A Village, 2023; Limited Edition Print
Born in Denver and currently based in Brooklyn, Caleb Hahne Quintana is a painter who explores themes related to memory, landscape, ancestry, migration, color, autobiography and storytelling. He received a BFA in Fine Arts from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, and has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; Denver Art Museum, Denver; Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles; Lyles & King, New York; albertz benda, Los Angeles; Alexander Berggruen, New York; Kunstraum Potsdam, Germany; PM/AM, London, UK; and the FLAG Art Foundation, New York. His paintings have also been acquired into the collections of the Denver Art Museum, High Museum of Art, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
It Is Not Only A Village is a close-up depiction of a hand clasping a glass of water, luminously lit before a glittering night sky. The title refers to the notion that humans are more than their physical selves, connected instead to a larger existence by way of the water and hydrogen that form a crucial makeup of not only their bodies but also the larger universe that they inhabit. As in other works that Hahne Quintana has created, the image’s background grounds an emotional space juxtaposed with an ethereal being or object depicted. For this edition, the artist has embellished 15 prints with new details such as additional stars, the water’s color, or a new moon in the sky.

Of this series benefitting the Ali Forney Center, Hahne Quintana notes, “Everyone deserves a place to live, care, community, and to be understood. Water, food and shelter are atop Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and I think it’s important that these all basic needs are met. I want to be a part of something that helps create this space for people, so I’ve chosen to do so with an artwork about connectivity.”
ART FOR CHANGE will donate a portion of proceeds from each print sold to the Ali Forney Center in support of the organization’s programs that save the lives of LGBTQ+ young people, protecting them from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently. As in all series, artists will receive 50% of the net proceeds of print sales.
