Amy Lincoln, Big Dipper (Orange and Purple), 2022; Limited Edition Print
Big Dipper (Orange and Purple), a vibrant, geometric study of the titular constellation in beaming orange stars with radiating, gradient spheres shining on the smooth waves in the foreground. The gradations of colors deepen and expand the sense of space, creating a prismatic illusion that oscillates between figuration and abstraction. Motivated by the idea that every bit of matter can refract light and appear in any possible color, Lincoln transitions between one hue to another in a way that creates a prismatic illusion of expansive space. Every pocket of her painted surface is distinguished by undulating and gradient shapes that come together to form an image that feels simultaneously figurative and abstract. The artist has hand-embellished each print with different elements using fluid acrylics, in the same color palette as the original work.
