Lucia Hierro (b. 1987, Washington Heights, NY) is a Dominican American conceptual artist currently based in the South Bronx. Lucia’s practice, which includes sculpture, digital media, and installation, confronts twenty-first century capitalism through an intersectional lens. She received a BFA from SUNY Purchase College (2010) and an MFA from Yale School of Art (2013). Recent solo exhibitions include Marginal Costs at the Aldrich Museum (Ridgefield, CT) and Tal Cual at Charlie James Gallery (Los Angeles, CA). Her works reside in the collections of the MFA Boston, Pérez Art Museum Miami, the JP Morgan & Chase Collection, Progressive Art Collection, and the Rennie collection in Vancouver, among others.

“Que no se te olvide! dos limones” is born from Hierro’s multimedia works that explore cultural signification through craft techniques merged with contemporary materials and references. A plastic bag overflowing with produceripe plantains, cilantro, lime, red onions, and eggplantsemerge in sharp contrast even through the transparent plastic against the pastel pumpkin background. Flat collage and layering exemplify Hierro’s style, creating a meaningful pastiche that reminds the artist of the critical items on her mother’s grocery list. Hierro imbues these everyday, even mundane objects with anticipation that, taken together at second glance, echo the titular plea—don’t forget, two lemons. The artist has hand-embellished the edition with an additional lime in vinyl, making each print a unique work.
