Born in East Lansing, Michigan and based in Brooklyn, New York, Anne Vieux merges traditional painting with experimental photographic processes. The artist begins her works by scanning holographic paper, which transforms light reflections into imagery. The chaotic, prismatic dispersions are then digitally rendered into compositions that are pigment printed on canvas. As a final step, Vieux adds hand-painted and airbrushed elements to achieve images that appear as still moments of something in motion. Known for finding beauty and meaning in both the digital and the analog, the artist has exhibited widely at venues around the world. Her work is included in the permanent collections of Newcomb Art Museum, New Orleans, LA; Meta Open Arts, San Francisco, CA; and the libraries the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, among others.

True to Vieux’s signature style, ##_violet is distinguished by the vibrant variations of colors in sections that ripple and overlap atop one another. An aqueous, metallic sheen appears on the matte, hand-painted layers, resulting in an image that feels simultaneously realistic and manipulated. This is further accentuated as the edition is printed on a special metallic rag paper. For this series, the artist has also air-brushed unique elements onto each print, deepening her exploration into how her works operate and behave.
